#02 Business
Ute Lange

Dear Readers,

Welcome back to Digital Development Debates.

First of all, we would like to thank you for all the positive feedback – it was wonderful to hear that our magazine was so well received.

This second issue is all about "doing business" and we focus on issues such as corporate social responsibility, microfinance, fair trade and entrepreneurship in emerging and developing countries.

German development cooperation is currently in transition. As you are reading this, in Germany the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development's (BMZ) three implementing organisations – the deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (GTZ), the German Development Service (DED) and InWEnt – are merging to form one organisation, the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH. This fusion is aimed at increasing the effectiveness and efficiency of international economic cooperation.

This new organisation with around 17,000 employees will focus its efforts on two aspects in particular: expanding education and economic cooperation with our partner countries. This issue ties in with one of the central focal points of German development policy.

We hope you enjoy our magazine and look forward again to hearing your ideas and suggestions.

Be part of the debates!
